Magellan's Policy on "Out of Warranty Repairs": (Taken
from the Magellan Website on 10/05/2009) .. Magellan does not service products. For
receivers returned after the warranty period or for damage not covered by the warranty,
customers may purchase a new unit at a reduced cost or reconditioned unit also at a
reduced cost.
Magellan's Policy on Warranty Service:
If you purchase your unit from an authorized Magellan dealer on eBay or elsewhere your
warranty applies. However; if you purchase a used, refurbished or new unit from an
unauthorized dealer your warranty does not apply. SO BE CAREFUL .. your unit may not be
covered by the Magellan Warranty and you may be "Out of Warranty".
Magellan's Software "In Warranty
Software Policy": (Reference Warranty Policy 631455-98 B).. Magellan
warrants that software products or software included in hardware products will be free
from defects in the media for a period of 30 days from the date of shipment and
will substantially conform to the then current user documentation provided with the
software (including updates thereto). Magellan's sole obligation shall be the correction
or replacement of the media or the software so that it will substantially conform to the
then- current user documentation. Magellan does not warrant the software will meet
purchaser's requirements or that its operation will be uninterrupted, error-free or
virus-free. Purchaser assumes the entire risk of using the software.

and 2000 Repair Center. My name is Ed a.k.a. Dua Ma Rung [Mr.
Jungle Ghost] and I have been a "Tracker" and "Manhunter" for over 55
years. I am involved with Law Enforcement and SAR to this present day.
About My Organization:
Over the past several years my organization has been testing and upgrading the Magellan
Triton Navigation GPS Series. We have been using the knowledge that our company
learned from testing the Magellan Triton Series for Search and Rescue Organizations (SAR),
State Marine and LE Authorities. We supply to our users reliable, accurate and
dependable GPS equipment. Our technical advice and support with our testing
staff are unequaled in the USA. My organization
has gained and earned recognition as experts in for the Magellan Triton GPS Series. Because of our
extensive experience and our software development expertise we are now offering a repair
service for all Magellan 1500 and 2000 GPS units. Let me clarify that we do not undertake hardware repairs only
software repairs. Let me give you
some details to assist you in your decision whether to repair or trade-in your OUT OF
WARRANTY Triton or not. 1) As of
9/23/2009 the Magellan policy is as follows for "out of warranty" products: a) Magellan
offers NO Triton 1500 trade-in policy.
b) Magellan offers Triton 2000 trade-in is $274.00 for a new unit and a refurbished unit
is not offered plus $6.00 S&H. 2) Consider that
if you choose any of the above MAGELLAN OPTIONS the maps you created or purchased may
not work because the serial number of the replacement unit will be DIFFERENT.
OUR METHOD MAKES SURE THAT THE SAME SERIAL NUMBER IS PRESERVED AND YOUR MAPS WILL NOT BE
EFFECTED.

DO NOT DESPAIR IF YOUR TRITON SHOWS THE BELOW PROBLEMS.
THE UNIT CAN BE REPAIRED BECAUSE THESE ARE SOFTWARE PROBLEMS. 1) We can repair
the Triton if it is stuck in the Development mode (The screen is dull gray with only the
top bar).
2) Vantage Point can no longer connect to your GPS.
3) Your Triton is issuing a Mgnshell.exe error.
4) Your Triton is issuing an "Internal Error" Message.
5) Your Triton halted during the firmware upgrade and is now locked.
6) Your Triton refuses to turn off on shut down.
7) Your Triton has some buttons that do not function.
8) Your Triton Touchscreen does not pass the diagnostic test indicating a fault in the
system.
9) Your Triton powers up and you get "GPS FIX" and "illegal

Units from Canada to USA For Repair.
1) You are exporting your Triton for repair and
it is considered by Canadian Customs to be duty free on return and you are only
responsible for the 7% GST Tax.
2) Your repair costs will be $89.99 so please
calculate the expected GST tax accordingly based on 7% plus either $3.00 or $5.00 Canada
Post charge. |
Be Careful of
Refurbished Units? -- A refurbished unit is a unit that has been previously sent
in for repair with some type of problem. Eventually, that problem is resolved
and the unit is sent to someone else later on, like yourself. This helps
improve repair turn-around time.
Refurbished
Units May Not Be a Good Solution: A refurbished unit is a good solution when the
original unit has been damaged beyond repair. However, it's a bad idea when there
are design issues involved. For example, if you sent your original unit in for a
software problem, you would receive a refurbished unit, which could also have
the same problem or a different problem and will most likely fail again.
Refurbished
Units Can Be More Problems Than a Solution: We have numerous customers that this has
happened to. The correct way to resolve this issue, is to not replace the
unit with a refurbished unit. The correct way to resolve this problem, is
to fix the problem so that your maps which are serial number matched to your GPS are
still useable. View the problem this way. If your unit is a
brick and "out of warranty" Magellan will only sell you a new unit or a
refurbished unit. Just look at our decision chart for a quick overview of
your situation.

hardware repairs. We have received numerous horror stories from people who have
literally destroyed their units by attempting to take it apart and we do not wish to
become involved in any hardware repairs.
