Gallery Wrapped Canvas
Gallery wrap stretcher is 1.5" (inches) deep or slightly greater. Canvas is wrapped, stretched and stapled on the back of the stretcher with heavy duty staples. There are several common ways to finish the sides of a painting. Sides can be painted as a continuation of a painting. They can be finished with one colour all around, for example black or simply left white. Gallery wrapped canvas can hold an interior hanging without a frame. It has a powerful presence due to it's depth. Gallery wrap is a great choice for almost any contemporary interior. Short Biography and Artists statement
Born in Russia in 1975 I attended art lessons since the age of 12. With my family's support I continued my art education in Canada. I completed undergraduate studies at OCAD and received my masters at the University of Waterloo in 2003 . I've earned recognition as a student, Ontario Graduate Scholarship was a significant achievement. My participation in the life of the local community was recognized by the Distinction in The Arts, National Ethnic Press & Media Council of Canada award in 2007. Today I am a proud Canadian artist. My passion for visual arts and painting in particular, is the driving force at the core of my personality. I enjoy my work on a profound level. I am also a dedicated scholar of art, who probes his field of study for new grounds. In my work I touch on several strands of painting methods.
Landscape, figure, still life and abstraction are the subject-matter resolved with classical paint application on my canvases. I often combine subjects and methods together to illustrate contemporary narrative. Professional background in fine art adds coherency to my practice, but I do let the abstract conception enter my work. Innovation contributes to the evolution of my paintings. The landscape became an important subject for me. I've traveled and lived in many spots around the globe. Landscape as the natural habitat presents a vast variety of facinating subjects to study and understand. Ground and sky populated and luminous with light, the land is visualy potent. I continualy attempt to master the landscape in my paintings. It is quite challenging to find a perfect balance for the objects, colors, shadow and light in perspective. I always carefuly look for just the right landscape. I wait until I am compelled by a special moment of beauty of the land. I begin to live and feel in this sublime moment and the impressions of it absorb into my painting.
The importance of the figure lies in the notion of the sefl. My entire knowledge of the world is based on the senses of my body. I identify with the human figure and recognize it as the very center of my legacy. The figure's ability to communicate the depth of the human experience is truly enormous. Body's plasticity, colors and emotional charge may be depicted by a capable master. I strive to master the ability to mold the figure in order to speak with it through my paintings.
The still life composits all the mateiral things that surround us. Objects so familiar, so comforting. Sometimes I think I can not live without them. Here is my favourite coffee cup, my computer, my book, the entire line up of things pregnant with meaning. Still life conveys many personal layers. Every age unvails it's unique identity through the ever changing arrangement of objects. How can an artist overlook a bouquet of flowers?
Abstraction resides outside of everything objective. Abstract painting may be the most flexible and liberating of all art forms. We no longer require a concrete concept of any kind in order to create. Abstraction makes the emergence of the new form possible with an almost unintentional act of the artist. Observing an abstract work of art makes me read a volley of assosiative images. I am often charmed by what emerges on my canvas when working in the none objective mode. Abstraction became one of the primary communicative vehicles for contemporary visual language.
LIving in the 21st century, we can observe the long history of fine art evolution. It is almost impossible to stay ignorant to the implications that came from inventing the Impressionism, the photography, the Cubism, the motion-picutre, the abstraction, the digital imaging and much more. What may the role of painting be today? What potential is hidden beneath the surface of something we call a painting? I am at awe, transforming a canvas into a simple painted picture that transcends language and time. Life itself becomes my palette and I exhibit it for you.
