LOOKING FOR AN EARLY BABBIT FLORIDA OTTO LINK REFACED BY THE REPUTABLE Erik Greiffenhagen TO A VERY CONFORTABLE 7 OPENING: YOU FOUND IT!
This is a late Florida Otto Link, also known as EARLY BABBBIT, recognizable for the larger font of the opening on the side. This one is stamped 5* but was perfected and opened to a standard 7 facing (0.100") by Erik Greiffenhagen (www.mouthpieceguys.com). You can see his initials engraved on the upper part of the shank and, most importantly, you can see the quality of his work also visually.
The Early Babbitt Florida Otto Links tend to have more material on the floor and as a result they play generally a bit brighter than older Florida Links and, in my experience, also a bit brighter than current production Otto Link STM and NY. Some of the EB Links were finished poorly but that is not the case of this one after Eric's work. Eric was asked to open the facing to a standard 7, to flatten the table and thin out the rails. All done magnificently.
Comes with an Otto Link ligature which I am not sure is original (since the metal is of different color than the mouthpiece, I tend to believe it is not) but works very well. No cap or box.
You will not be disappointed by this one. This is my very last Otto Link I have for sale (I owned and sole many), as I am now quite settled on Zagar mouthpieces.
I see the usual web stores asking between 600 and 800$ also for non-refaced version of those. They are not easy to find and sell for big bucks for a reason.
