Bill Dana My Name...Jose Jimenez CD 1960 comedy release

Only in America could a comic of Hungarian-Jewish descent named William Szathmary change his name to Bill Dana and become famous portraying a bumbling Mexican! A little too bumbling for the likes of some, and Dana renounced his Jose Jimenez character in the early '70s (and won an award in 1997 from the National Hispanic Media Coalition). It’s finally safe enough that Bill Dana My Name...Jose Jimenez has been released on CD. The album is his 1960 recording debut, which took its title from the line his character used to introduce himself on The Steve Allen Show, and went to #15 on the charts! Half of this CD consists of clips from The Steve Allen Show that first brought Jose Jimenez into American households. A comic landmark!
